ACTOR CALL
New play development: Untitled Arthur Erickson Project
CREATIVE TEAM
Playwright / producer – Liam Monaghan
Director – Mia van Leeuwen
THE PROJECT
This is a new play development project. The play will be a biographical adaptation of the lives of the Canadian architect Arthur Erickson (1924-2008) and his partner in work and love, the interior designer Francisco Kripacz (1942-2000). Read about their fascinating story here.
DATES OF ENGAGEMENT
§ Private workshop: April 22-26, 2025 in Lethbridge, Alberta
§ Private workshop + public reading: July 15-19, 2025 in Edmonton, Alberta
THE OPPORTUNITY
§ Actors are needed for a two-part new play development process (dates above). The available roles are:
Francisco Kripacz, interior designer — seeking a male actor (approximately mid-40s). Francisco is Arthur Erickson’s professional and romantic partner; a passionate aesthete and world traveller with a talent for throwing unforgettable parties.
Unnamed character, archivist — seeking an actor of any gender and background (aged 30s-40s). The as-yet unnamed character is an architect, graduate student, and archival researcher studying the work of Arthur Erickson. This role triangulates the relationship between Arthur and Francisco, standing in for the playwright and the audience and opening a contemporary window onto this queer love story from the past.
§ This is a paid opportunity. Actors will be paid according to CAEA Indie 3.0 minimums for two full weeks’ engagement (ten 8-hour working days total). Both Equity and non-Equity artists may apply.
§ Travel and accommodations are included for out-of-town artists.
§ Applicants should be excited by new play development and open to working collaboratively with new text as well as devising and worldbuilding methods.
§ Edmonton-based actors will be prioritized, but we will consider applicants from across Alberta.
